Investigation Results in 23 Drug Family Arrests
The average American citizen may know very little about the Nuestra family. However, the Nuestra family is making itself known, with 23 members behind bars as a result of drug trafficking, according to a PRN News piece.
United States Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner announced that an indictment was unsealed, charging 20 individuals with one-count of drug distribution conspiracy. Of those arrested in conjunction with this raid, Florentino Acosta was arrested on charges of possession of $95,000 connected with drug trafficking activities.
Of the total number of defendants, 17 were charged with felony offenses by the Kings County District Attorney. The total number of state and federal defendants equals 37, with 35 in custody. The arrests are the result of an extensive, joint investigation b the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the FBI, the California Department of Justice Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement and the Kings County Narcotic Task Force.
Wagner noted that federal, state and local law enforcement worked together to strike a blow against a major drug trafficking network. On one day last week, the investigation led to the seizure of a kilogram of cocaine, more than a pound of methamphetamine, body armor, eight firearm weapons and more than $36,000 in cash.
Life in prison and a $4,000,000 fine is the maximum statutory penalty for a violation of specific drug trafficking offenses that have been brought against members and friends of the Nuestra family. Actual sentencing, however, is determined at the discretion of the court, applicable statutory factors and Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
